Fertility/Infertility
To correctly assess infertility both partners must be involved in the process, in order to correctly address the feeling often associated with infertility such as:
- Inadequacy
- Anger
- Guilt
- Resentment
For the male patient the search usually centers on the sperm and the endocrine system.
- Sperm
- Low sperm count
- Azospermia (fructose in the semen)
- Varicocele - most common anatomic abnormality in men. Mostly on the left
- Retrograde Ejaculation. Neurological problem results in the sperm going into the bladder at ejaculation.
- Endocrine
- Prolactin
- Thyroid
- Adrenal Disorders may result in infertility
- Hypogonads
- For the female patient we usually look at the ovary - Any infertile woman with abnormal menstrual
period should be checked for ovulation abnormality especially hormonal.
- Tubal Problems
- May be associated with
- PID
- IUD
- Appendicitis
- Abd Surgery
- Ectopic Pregnancy
- Cervix Mucus Abnormality
Abnormality of the biological mens plug that helps the sperm and keep away bacteria
Others - some female infertility may not be fully biologically explained. For these patients medical therapy may be the only option.
